Back to Front Goshka Macuga
Goshka's design is from a scan of the threads of the back of one of her large-scale tapestries. Playing off the idea of tapestry as wall-covering this design subverts the form and shows us the weave from the back rather than the front. Historically the front of a tapestry is an illusionary device like a painting, but what she shows us here are the hidden workings, the threads and knots, the mechanics. She shows us how an artwork is all tied together.
