Unknown (possibly Atelier Remondini)

 

Remondini papers were used to bind books or decorate furniture, and it's considered extremely rare to find a sample of full size paper today. The Remondini family was a well-known family of printers based in Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza), Italy. They set up shop in the city centre of Bassano and were in operation from 1634-1861. Some of their stock included games, playing cards, wallpapers, woodcuts of saints and other popular objects. Remondini is also famous for his door-to-door sales method, sending out sales people armed with sample books to sell his decorative papers. Whilst we don't know for certain whether Curious Creatures is indeed a Remondini design, it came to us by way of a domino paper, found in an auction of rare books and manuscripts.
