Georgie Hopton

 

Georgie Hopton (b. 1967, North Yorkshire) is a British artist who lives and works in London. Moving between figuration, abstraction and pattern, her practice spans painting, printmaking, collage and textiles. Nature is a constant presence in her work, supplying inspiration, materials and tools, while her love of colour and texture can be traced back to her mother’s quilt-making and knitting.

 

Collage sits at the heart of Georgie’s practice, alongside a belief in creativity without boundaries. Inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement and the Wiener Werkstätte, her work moves freely between fine art, textiles, pattern and the domestic interior. 

 

Georgie graduated from St Martins in 1989. Her work is held in the collections of Tate, Arts Council England and the Government Art Collection, and she has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally. She is represented by Lyndsey Ingram, London.
